Zoom introduces a groundbreaking application exclusively tailored for Apple’s Vision Pro, marking a significant entry into the mixed-reality headset arena.
On January 29th, Zoom revealed its latest application exclusively designed for Apple’s Vision Pro, marking Apple’s initial foray into mixed-reality headsets. Users in the United States can start utilizing the highly anticipated device from February 2nd, coinciding with the commencement of headset deliveries.
Within the Apple Vision Pro environment, users actively present an authentic spatial representation of themselves, showcasing facial expressions and hand movements to fellow meeting participants. The immersive experience includes the ability to actively scale the 3D environment and utilize an integrated Zoom chat.
A distinctive feature actively allows users to pin up to five Zoom Meeting participants anywhere in their physical surroundings. Moreover, they can actively opt to eliminate the background of these pinned participants, enhancing engagement in virtual meetings.
Zoom foresees significant benefits for the media and design industries with the app’s introduction of the 3D object-sharing feature. The company envisions professionals like animators and game designers actively leveraging Zoom’s capabilities to share and discuss the latest character models within the context of a 3D environment.
The announcement reflects the ongoing competition among major tech companies to actively establish their presence in the virtual reality realm. Microsoft, for instance, actively developed Microsoft Mesh, an interface offering avatars and immersive 3D spaces for remote work. Scheduled for compatibility with Meta Quest VR devices from January 19th, 2024, Mesh is already actively available on PC.
Meta, on the other hand, actively crafted its own virtual reality workspace called Horizon Workrooms, accessible through Meta’s VR devices, contributing to the evolving landscape of active virtual collaboration.
