Twitter’s Security Breach: Private Circle Tweets Exposed

Twitter's Security Breach

Twitter security has disclosed that a “security incident” caused private tweets, originally meant for Twitter Circles, to be displayed publicly to users who were not part of the Circle. The social media platform launched Twitter Circle in August 2022 as a new feature that allows users to share tweets with a specific group of people while keeping them hidden from the general public. According to Twitter’s description of the feature, it enables users to express their thoughts with a more exclusive audience.

When using Twitter Circle, you have the ability to choose who is included in your exclusive audience. This ensures that only those individuals who you have added can interact and reply to the tweets you share within the Circle.

On April 7th, a “security incident” caused private Twitter Circle tweets to become publicly displayed. Twitter notified affected users yesterday, stating that their accounts may have been impacted by this incident. According to the notification, the security issue allowed users outside of the Twitter Circle to view tweets that should have been limited to the Circle.

Twitter has conducted a thorough investigation into the matter and taken measures to address the issue. The company recognizes the potential risks that such an incident can introduce and regrets any inconvenience caused to its users. While Twitter did not provide specific details about the cause of the security incident, the platform has undergone significant changes since Elon Musk took ownership. These changes were a part of a series of updates made by Elon Musk, which focused on enhancing the platform’s functionality. The updated algorithm was set to refresh every 28 to 48 hours.
