Twitter Security Breach: Source Code Exposed on the Web

Twitter Security Breach

Court documents reveal that someone leaked pieces of the computer code that Twitter uses to run its platform, creating another problem for the social media giant in the wake of Elon Musk’s tumultuous $44 billion takeover of the company in late 2022 Twitter Security Breach.

Twitter has taken action by issuing a subpoena to GitHub, a software collaboration platform, where a user identified as “FreeSpeechEnthusiast” shared excerpts of Twitter’s source code without permission. Twitter’s lawyer stated that the purpose of the subpoena is to identify the person responsible for sharing the code.

The Northern District of California’s U.S. District Court received the documents that were filed. On that day, GitHub complied with Twitter’s request and removed the code. A spokesperson stated that the company discloses all DMCA takedowns, which involve removing content from a website at the request of a copyright owner, to promote openness. Twitter has not yet react to queries for comments.

Musk has announced that Twitter will release the code for tweet suggestions on March 31. He expects people to discover some minor, humorous issues and acknowledges that the transparency provided by the code’s release will be initially embarrassing.
