T-Mobile Data Breach: Another Blow to Client Privacy

T-Mobile Data Breach

Hundreds of T-Mobile customers are concerned about their privacy after the telecoms giant experienced its second data breach of the year. T-Mobile admitted that threat actors had potentially accessed sensitive information like account PINs, social security numbers, and full names. On April 28, T-Mobile disclosed the breach to authorities in Maine, US, even though only one of the affected customers lived in that state. T-Mobile clarified that the stolen data varied for each customer and could have included contact details, T-Mobile account PIN, government ID, date of birth, balance due, and rate plans, among others. However, the company affirmed that personal financial account information or call records were not compromised.

T-Mobile confirmed that the breach occurred between February 24 and March 30, making it a challenging first quarter of the year for the company, which also suffered an attack in January. T-Mobile has experienced other previous breaches, which have cost it millions. In response to the latest breach, T-Mobile reset affected customers’ PINs and advised them to create new codes for added security. Furthermore, it provided two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection as compensation to affected customers.
