MSI urges its users not to download firmware and BIOS updates from third-party sources. In a recent statement, the company warns against the risk of hackers spreading fake versions of MSI’s BIOS software.

This warning follows the announcement from Money Message, the ransomware group that claimed responsibility for breaching MSI’s security and stealing the PC manufacturer’s source code. To minimize any potential security threats, MSI advises its users to obtain all software updates exclusively from the company’s official website.

After a ransomware group claimed responsibility for stealing files, MSI confirmed that it experienced a data breach. The company shared the news via a filing on the Taiwanese stock exchange, acknowledging that it had been the victim of a “cyber attack.”

However, MSI provided minimal information regarding the specifics of the breach. The company’s IT department detected that some of its information systems were under attack from hackers and took action to defend against further incidents and recover any lost data.

MSI did not provide any response to the comment request, which leaves the status of customer data exposure unclear. Nevertheless, in the stock exchange filing, the company forecasted that the breach would not significantly impact its finances or operations.
