Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, Hirokazu Matsuno, spoke on Tuesday. He stated that confirming leaked security information remained uncertain.
The Post reported a former U.S. military official’s description of the breach as “bad – shockingly bad.” Furthermore, the U.S. National Security Agency briefed Japan’s defense minister.
While Japan fortified its networks, unnamed Post officials considered them inadequately secure against Chinese espionage. This vulnerability could hinder extensive intelligence sharing.
Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh didn’t comment on the Post report. Yet, she expressed confidence in ongoing intelligence sharing between the U.S. and Japan.
The U.S. National Security Agency didn’t respond immediately to the Post report. Moreover, a trilateral summit with the U.S., Japan, and South Korea is expected to announce enhanced security cooperation on Aug. 18.
