On Tuesday night, the ransomware group linked to Russia showcased ALDO shoes on its website. LockBit, the group behind it, stated that unless the company pays the ransom by December 25th, they will publish the stolen data.
ALDO Group quickly responded to the incident, informing Cybernews that it was a problem with one of their franchise partners’ systems. They assured that they contained the situation promptly, with no impact on their overall operations. ALDO Group clarified that none of its systems, whether owned or operated by the company, were affected. According to Cybernews, the investigation by ALDO Group’s partner revealed that the compromised data was specific to operations in a particular overseas territory and did not include any financial or payment card information of ALDO customers.
LockBit made recent headlines for targeting aerospace giant Boeing. The group allegedly leaked 50GB of data when Boeing ignored warnings from the ransomware gang. In early November, LockBit released the first batch of sensitive information, encompassing details about engine part suppliers, technical operators, as well as financial and marketing data of Boeing.
Typically, ransomware groups issue warnings when companies refuse to meet extortion demands. LockBit emerged on the ransomware scene in late 2019 and has since become a prominent threat, ranking high on lists of victimized organizations. The group has reportedly executed over 1,400 attacks globally, targeting victims in the US, Asia, Europe, and Africa.
The latest iteration of LockBit, LockBit 3.0, also known as LockBit Black, is considered the most elusive version to date, according to a report from the US Department of Justice.
