Topgolf Callaway has initiated a password reset for affected customers and implemented additional security measures.
Topgolf Callaway Brands Corp., the company that sells Callaway golf gear, recently revealed a data breach affecting more than one million individuals. The breach started with an “IT system incident” on August 1, impacting users of their e-commerce websites.
The compromised data affected customers of various websites, including “Callaway, Odyssey, Ogio, and/or Callaway Golf Preowned sites.” It exposed account passwords, security question answers, names, mailing addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and order histories.
Upon discovering the breach on August 16, Topgolf Callaway initiated an investigation with external advisors and promptly informed law enforcement agencies. Subsequently, the company began notifying affected customers on Tuesday, according to the Office of the Maine Attorney General’s listing.
Fortunately, this incident did not compromise payment card numbers or Social Security numbers, as confirmed by Topgolf Callaway.
To bolster data security, the company mandated a password reset for its customers and implemented extra protective measures, such as strengthening security layers around its data and refining access control protocols. Additionally, they are actively collaborating with external experts to enhance their system’s security.
Topgolf Callaway, headquartered in Carlsbad, California, did not reveal the specific nature or source of the incident. It’s important to note that this notification does not concern the company’s chain of outdoor Topgolf recreation centers.
